Glaze-It!

Hi Guys, A few weeks back my good friend Heather and I headed over to Glaze-it in Elsternwick to do some painting. We each chose a ceramic owl and thought we would be able to slap some paint on and head back out for a late lunch... 5 hours later we were finally finished.

As you never know exactly what colour your glaze is going to come out once it is fired, we were pleasantly surprised when we picked up our owls a week later... They were even displayed proudly in the shop front. (So we must have done pretty well)

Hope you like, I know i do :)

Paints are numbered, so you know what each looks like.

Layers and layers of paint, and I'm finally finished.

Now I have him home, and I love him to bits.

Sketchy Time!

So I've been doing quite a lot of sketching lately for my Alice in Wonderland themed exhibition and thought I would show you a few. Don't ask me what I'm going to do with them though. I have no idea. Suggestions are welcomed, not sure if some would look better digital or some painted... too many options.

Cupcake Day for the RSPCA!

A few gals and myself are doing Cupcake day for the RSPCA at work this year! So my weekend will be filled with baking. This is a very important cause, because animals don't have a voice! So we need to stand up for the little guys that are getting abused everyday. So even though you can not purchase a cupcake from me. I and all the victims of animal abuse would be mega appreciative if you would spare a few coins and donate here.

The RSPCA operates ten animal welfare shelters in Victoria, providing refuge and care and where possible, offering more than 35,000 animals each year a second chance.
A team of RSPCA Inspectors works to protect animals from cruelty, investigates 14,121 estimated reports, prosecutes offenders and rescues animals from dangerous situations.

As a not-for-profit organization, the RSPCA relies on community support to care for 'all creatures great and small'. Only 3% of the RSPCA's operating expenses is supported by a grant from the Victorian State Government, so they truly are an organization funded by the generous Victorian community.

Every dollar counts and the animals really need our support
If we wont stand up for them, who will!?

Thanks guys xox

The beginning of something great

I thought i would share with you the very beginning of my work going toward an exhibition I plan to have with my good friend Heather over at inkysplatter and co-blogger or curiouserinwonderland.

I'm very excited to be taking my graphic designer hat off for a while and my illustration cap back on. So much that I spent a hefty amount of pennies at Riot Art last week, stocking up on art supplies.

Hope you are liking what you see,
I'm not 100% finished, but feedback is always appreciated.

As much as i hated it, i ripped up an Alice in Wonderland golden book to collage
the beginning of this piece. Using acrylics to add final details at the moment.
Not 100% sure if it needs something to fill the area to the top left of the canvas.
Does it need something? Any suggestions?

I'm very happy with the direction this small canvas is taking.
Titled the Hatter and the Hare, it is painted with vibrant acrylics and has a part two
which will sit beneath part 1 containing their bodies.
But ill save the pairs reveal for the exhibition :)

Wedding invites

I have started creating wedding invited for a friend of mine.
Still a work in progress, but here are a couple of concepts I created based on her direction. Two very different styles based on the love bird theme.

Plaster Fun-Houses!

Howdy! I'm just popping by to show you these little houses I made out of clay.
We are currently doing some trend boards at work and I decided that I would get my hands dirty.

Reminded me of the days I use to go to the 'Plaster Fun House' around the corner and you could spend hours in there painting your unicorns or money banks.

I'm feeling a new addiction coming on, I'm thinking I might make a few little bird houses for my Christmas tree... any other ideas on what I could make?

I absolutely love Kirsten Ulve's work, so I though I better share this amazing artist with you all...

Illustrator Kirsten Ulve hails from the town of Dubuque, Iowa. Her obsessions with fireworks, puppets, discotheques, as well as a previous career as a graphic designer have all contributed to the style and mood of her work. Her happy clientele includes Glamour Magazine, Hasbro, Target, and Palty of Japan. She has exhibited her work in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Tokyo, and is a regular contributor to The New Yorker, Entertainment Weekly, and Boston Magazines. I love it, hope you do to.

Heeeellloooo.... Suitcases!!

Okay, So I have a new obsession I think... Furniture made out of suitcases!! I was watching Better Homes and Gardens a few weeks ago and believe it or not the Crafty Lady had a good idea.
(Doesn't happen often, but it does happen)

So that got me thinking what other things could you do with suitcases?
Well here is the answer... Anything you can think of!

So I am now feeling super inspired, and I've been looking for a set of bedside tables for my bedroom (which already has a bit of a travel theme) So what better side tables then pieces of funky luggage!!?

Say it with words....

Saying something heartfelt doesn't always need to have an illustration to accompany it. I really enjoyed Typography when I was going through Tafe and I still love it now. There is nothing like a well designed sentiment thats comes from the heart...

Google does Charles Dickens

I got to work this morning to discover Googles new logo is celebrating Charles Dickens. I think this is one of my favourite Google logo designs.

Doesn't it look great!?

Charles Dickens was an English novelist.
Dickens's work has been highly praised for its realism, comedy, mastery of prose, unique personalities and concern for social reform.

What a handsome man!

Some of his Character that you may know, are Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim, Oliver twist, The Artful Dodger and many many more.
